The hottest genre in developer writing this summer is the switching story. Claude Code users are moving to Codex because of usage limits. Codex users are moving back because of code quality. Every week there’s a new migration guide, a new benchmark table, a new thread of people announcing their departure from one tool or the other like it’s a breakup.
I’ve read a lot of these posts, and almost none of them include the author’s own numbers. Which model did they actually use, on what kind of work, and what did it cost? How often did they really hit a limit? The debate runs on benchmarks, anecdotes, and screenshots of rate-limit warnings.
That’s a strange way to make a decision you’ll live with every working day. Especially when the data to make it properly is already sitting on your machine.
